We may still be far away from the first Monday in May, but Vogue has exclusively revealed details for the 2025 Met Gala. Each year, the Met Gala theme is revealed to go with the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s spring exhibition. In 2025, the spring exhibition and Met Gala theme will be Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. The theme is inspired by the Barnard Professor of Africana Studies, Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. Also, the 2025 Met Gala organizers have announced the celebrity co-chairs. What will the 2025 Met Gala theme be?

On October 9th, the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced that the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition would be Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. The exhibit is inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. It will feature various photographs, paintings, garments, and more.

All of these aspects will have a tie to the style of Black men that dives into the world of dandyism, with a timeline from the 18th century through the present day. Miller herself will be a guest curator for the show, with Costume Institute Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton. The dress code hasn’t been revealed yet, but more details will be shared per Vogue’s article.

Who is hosting the 2025 Met Gala?

Anna Wintour will be making her return as co-chair for the 2025 Met Gala. Others who will make up the co-chair entourage include Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and LeBron James, who will serve as an “honorary chair.” The 2025 Met Gala will mark James’ debut at the event.

When and where will the 2025 Met Gala be held?

The 2025 Met Gala will occur on Monday, May 5th, in New York City at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, continuing the tradition of being held on the first Monday of May. Subsequently, all of the gala’s guests will get the first look at the exhibit, and the public will be able to see it the next day. Superfine: Tailoring Black Style will be on view from May 6th through October 26th, 2025.

If you’re not familiar, the Met Gala is a highly acclaimed and prestigious night of fashion. It was formerly known as Costume Institute Benefit but has since changed its name. Its purpose is to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute annually in New York City.

The guest list remains top secret but for the most part, only celebrities and the biggest names in the industry get invited. The Met Gala welcomes around 450 attendees. Each year, Wintour herself makes the decision of who can come up with the guest list. Also, there is a certain criteria that is followed per her request where several not known factors come into play. In past years, celebrities like Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, Rihanna, and more have made their appearance at the gala.
