6 Ways to Celebrate Halloween Without Partying

As we near the end of October, some people are looking forward to Halloween next week while others are looking forward to “Halloweekend” (the weekend before Halloween). As a way to celebrate Halloween, parties are a popular idea during the spooky festivity. If you aren’t into the party scene, there are alternative ways to still get in on the Halloween fun — without the party element.

1. Have a Halloween movie marathon

Invite a group of friends or go solo — and have a Halloween movie marathon! Cook up some popcorn, grab your favorite drink, and get cozy while tuning into the Halloween film favorites. We’ve actually made a list of non-scary films that can be checked out here. Some movie options can include Corpse Bride, Coraline, or Halloweentown. For horror movie fanatics, watch the scary classics like Halloween, It, The Nightmare on Elm Street, or Child’s Play.

2. Decorate pumpkins

This makes another great group or solo activity — grab a pumpkin at your local grocery store or farmer’s market, if you didn’t have time to stop by a pumpkin patch. There are two different routes to choose from — like painting or carving a pumpkin. We recommend searching for creative inspiration on an app like Pinterest or just doing a quick Google search.

3. Make Halloween-inspired treats

Satisfy your cravings by making some delicious treats with a Halloween twist to them. Once again, Pinterest has many ideas featured or you can go on other social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. There are ideas like ghost-shaped cupcakes, spooky cinnamon rolls (with orange/black colored dough), pumpkin cookies, or strawberries shaped like skulls (see above).

4. Tell or read scary stories

Feeling brave? Why not share scary stories with friends or read one online? Telling or reading scary stories will get you in the spooky spirit. To add a more chilling experience, turn off the lights and light up candles. Some examples of reads to choose from are The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe, and Strawberry Spring by Stephen King.

5. Get dressed up even if you’re not going out

Even if you’re not going to a Halloween party, getting dressed up is always fun to do. Get a last-minute costume by gathering items found in your closet or from stores like Party City or Spirit Halloween. Halloween is the one time of the year when one can dress up and go the extra mile — so, put on that costume for your enjoyment and get in on the classic Halloween tradition.

6. Have a photoshoot

Costumes may be needed for this idea but a cute fall outfit pick will work too. Turn your room, apartment, or house into a mini photoshoot site by using Halloween decor you have or grabbing last-minute supplies from a local craft store. Use a tripod or other tool to rest your phone on and start posing as the camera flashes away. Next, once you have your pictures, if you want to post on Instagram and need ideas for caption — check out our list here.
