Wicked was a highly anticipated film of 2024 starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda that was released on November 22nd. As we near the end of the year, it continues making box-office history. Wicked has grossed $359 million domestically and more than $524 million worldwide as of the present time. As many are eager for part two to drop in 2025, the Wicked: Part Two has been revamped — with a new name. The second part of the Broadway adaption film is set to be named, Wicked: For Good.
What to expect in Wicked: Part Two?
On December 17th, the official Wicked Instagram page dropped major news in relation to Wicked: Part Two. In a post, the caption shared, “You will be changed. Wicked: For Good, only in theaters November 21, 2025. 💚🩷.” So, instead of its previous name Wicked: Part Two, the sequel to the Broadway adaption will go by Wicked: For Good.

This name is particularly an homage to a song from the musical. Titled For Good, the song is a duet between Elphaba and Glinda as a farewell towards the end. It makes a meaningful send-off to the two-part Wicked movie series for good. We can also most likely expect Erivo and Grande to do their interpretation of the song.
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
Wicked: Part One ended with Elphaba (played by Erivo) leaving Emerald City with a rendition of Defying Gravity. This was due to Elphaba being tricked into reading a spell that takes the Wizard’s group of monkey guards to be changed into winged creatures. The now-winged creatures would be used as spies who could report on the occurrences in Oz like animal activity and uprisings.

Glinda goes after Elphaba and tries to convince her to apologize for leaving. However, Elphaba is reluctant and decides to do what is right and what she stands for. The duo bid an emotional goodbye with the Defying Gravity song.
Following this, Wicked: For Good will follow Elphaba’s journey as a now “fugitive” while Glinda struggles with her loyalty to her friend and her role in maintaining the status quo. Elphaba is now named the “Wicked Witch” and confronts the consequences of standing up for what she believes in. While Glinda is painted as a hero and named a “Good Witch.”
When will Wicked: Part Two be released?
Wicked: For Good will be released on November 21st, 2025. It may seem like months away but you can always rewatch Wicked: Part One in the meantime or see the Wicked show on Broadway to get an idea of what happens in the ending. The original Broadway show is one show and one show only — there are no splits just your regular Act I and Act II.
If you’re wondering why the film was split into two parts, the director shared his reasoning for this decision. Jon M. Chu shared in a tweet, “Here’s what happened: as we prepared this production over the last year, it became increasingly clear that it would be impossible to wrestle the story of ‘Wicked’ into a single film without doing some real damage to it. As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years.”

Going back to the Wicked films, both of them were filmed back to back which is why there isn’t a huge release date gap between them.
Who will star in Wicked: Part Two?
Of course, we can expect our favorite cast members to make their return. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will be reprising their roles as Elphaba and Glinda. Other cast members include Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Ethan Slater as Boq, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard, and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible. Bowen Yang, Keala Settle, Aaron Teoh, and Colin Michael Carmichael also form the movie’s ensemble.
